Flood defences doing their job!

The Environment Agency has provided the following update regarding the Scheme's use in 2014:

"We operated the Elvington Flood Alleviation Scheme eleven times last year. The durations vary depending on the size of the flood event, the longest being around 4 weeks between January & February 2014.

All is well regarding the scheme. The Ouse and Derwent Internal Drainage Board are operating and maintaining the Pumping Station. We operate and maintain the penstock, flap valve and flood bank. We have recently removed an accumulation of silt from the penstock structure to ensure the flap valve seals properly and allows flows to pass through the structure unimpeded."

Residents should be reassured that the scheme continues to provide protection against flooding events that previously affected properties and closed Main Street for extended periods.
