Local man Colin Skelton is fundraising for a village defibrillator

Elvington resident Colin Skelton is a Community First Responder for the Yorkshire Ambulance Service.

He's running the Great North Run and the York Marathon this year to solely try and raise funds to purchase a public access Automated External Defibrillator (AED) for Elvington.

As First Responders there is an AED but although the team do try and cover as much time as possible to support the ambulance service as volunteers, it's not a 24 hr service.

Colin's aim is to purchase an AED so that if a member of the public should have a heart attack the unit can be accessed by dialling 999 and be given the unlock code for the cabinet.

The potential that this has to save a life is immeasurable. Colin has the support from the medical centre and the doctors, Yorkshire Ambulance Service and the village school.

If you can donate anything, it will be going to a really valuable cause. You can sponsor Colin at www.gofundme.com/AEDforelvington .
