At its meeting on 19th May, Jo Young was duly appointed to the casual vacancy on the Parish Council.
Jo was born in York, and has had a successful career in the British Army. She says "I am passionate about environmental issues, combating loneliness and poverty, and generating inclusivity. I feel that a successful Parish Council must balance innovation and progress with tradition and the Army has certainly taught me how to balance those equally vital aspects. I have found Elvington to be a wonderful, welcoming community to which I would like to give something back.".
Jo replaces Councillor Ian Bailey who served on the Parish Council for more than sixteen years, making a significant contribution both to the flood defence scheme and the play park.
Four extremely strong applications were received from residents for the vacancy and the Parish Council would like to thank them all for their willingness to consider volunteering to support the village. The size of the Parish Council will be reviewed given the growth in the size of the village and if an additional place on the Council is warranted this will be advertised again.
